Each year we fundraise and organise the Christmas lights on behalf of Dorking Town. Our fundraising activites include evening events, collection boxes in shops, and assistance from Dorking Town Partnership. We are also fortunate in getting a grant from MVDC to help us.
Over many years we have had the wonderful support of the Dorking Town Partnership BID. We have also been the recipient of a grant from MVDC. Although supported by grants, additional donations help us to increase our activities for the benefit of the town. . If you are interested in helping us with a donation please contact us.
All of the Christmas lights are LED making them energy efficient. The property Xmas tree lights run on a very low consumption level so businesses can be assured the costs are minimal. We advise all businesses with a property tree, if possible, to put them on timers (daily light up 3pm-11.30pm) in order to help maintain the longevity of the lights as well as reduce the carbon footprint.
All of our events are eco friendly. We reuse our lovely knitted characters each year and when we lose a few we entice community knitters and groups to help us add to our existing stock. All paper we use is wherever possible collected up and recycled. It is always printed on FSC accredited stock.
In the summer we again fundraise and organise the Hanging Baskets for the Dorking and use the same activies to fundraise the amount needed.
Each year we create the Dorkers' Easter Hunt and Spooktacular Halloween Hunt around Dorking for families. This has been very well received by both retailers, businesses and families. This is funded by the Friends of Dorking with help from sponsorship. If you are interested in helping us with sponsorship please contact us.
